Because of Covid it had been two years since I had visited with my daughter, more than four years since my last trip to see her in Portland.
I've had my third Pfizer shot so we thought it relatively safe to travel to Oregon.
We had been enjoying a spectacular Montana Fall, some say the best in memory, so it was a great pleasure to see the tail end of the Oregon Fall.
We rented a really nice AirBnB on Portland's southwest side near the town of Multnomah and were only 16 minutes away from my daughter's Northwest apartment not far from Forest Park. Our hosts were interesting characters who billed the place the "Artsy AirBnB" and who had decorated it with posters and memorabilia from various theater productions.
Despite Portland's turbulent past year we felt exceptionally safe in this neighborhood and were charmed by nearby Multnomah.
It was almost shocking to see how diligent Portlanders were about masking and social distancing compared with the lax, almost reckless Montana attitude about Covid. We were pleased.
It was a quick trip highlighted with some time with my sister, Janet, who came by from the suburb of Sherwood.
Much of our free time with daughter Leila was spent exploring the Portland Arboretum network of trails.
I had only touched on them slightly in previous Portland visits.
I was bowled over by the variety of trees as much as the variety of trails.
And of course they were in glorious late Fall colors.
